A woman had her earlobe bitten off by her partner during a domestic violence incident at Mount Warrigal, south of Wollongong, police allege. The woman drove herself to Shellharbour Hospital for treatment after the alleged incident which took place around midnight on Sunday.

NSW Police say the woman’s partner grabbed her by the throat during the altercation before pushing her into the lounge.

“A short time later, the man allegedly choked the woman and her right earlobe, which was partially severed as a result,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The woman drove herself to Shellharbour Hospital where police were notified.”

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were called to the hospital before attending a home in Mount Warrigal, where they located and seized an imitation firearm, police say.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with malicious damage, two counts of strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, inflict grievous bodily harm with intent and possess prohibited firearm.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today.
