As we continue to get closer and closer to Christmas time, many of us feel a range of emotions: excitement, joy, anxiousness, and even at times sadness. Today’s Christmas film—P.S. I Love You—is a great watch for anyone who has lost someone close to them. The Christmas season is a time where people gather with their families and it can a very difficult time for those who have a very special family member missing this year. P.S. I Love You isn’t your typical feel-good, happy-go-lucky Christmas film, but it is a film that is well worth watching.

Celebmix's Christmas Film Advent: Day 8 3

The film follows the life of Holly (played by Hilary Swank), a woman in her early 30s, as she tries to piece her life back together after her husband Gerry (played by Gerard Butler) tragically dies from a brain tumor right before Christmas. Weeks after Gerry’s death, Holly’s world is turned upside down once more when she receives a letter from him. To Holly’s surprise, Gerry had written her a series of letters before his passing, each one to be delivered on a specific date. Each letter Gerry wrote challenged Holly to grow, to mature, to break out of her comfort zone, to try and find joy in life even though he was no longer there to share in it with her. With the help of her friends, her family, and some compassionate people she meets along the way, Holly begins her road to recovery.

Celebmix's Christmas Film Advent: Day 8 2

This movie will make you both laugh hysterically and cry hysterically. The cast is absolutely incredible and includes some big-name actors like Harry Connick Jr., Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kathy Bates, Lisa Kudrow, and Gina Gershon. The film is set in the beautiful New York City, but several flashbacks and a large part of the end of the movie are filmed in Ireland. This movie brilliantly captures the heartbreak of losing a loved one so close to the holidays and having to adapt to life without them. However, the film is not all sad by any means. The movie is full of humor and light-heartedness.

Celebmix's Christmas Film Advent: Day 8 1

This is a movie you should definitely watch this Christmas season. If you’re hurting—this movie is for you. If you’re not hurting—this movie will help you to better understand those around you who are hurting this holiday season. More so than anything, this movie will cause you to cherish the time you spend with your loved ones this holiday seasons. We know your family is probably crazy—most are. But getting to spend time with them and to make memories that are going to last long past Christmas—that’s what the holidays are all about. Hopefully this film can bring some joy back into your holidays and give you a new perspective on family, love, and life.
